Chrysocolla
specimen number:
2312614
location:
Likasi, Kambove, Haut-Katanga, DR Congo
description: Likasi and Kambove, located in the mineral-rich Haut-Katanga Province of the Democratic Republic of Congo, are historic mining centers within the Central African Copperbelt, with large-scale industrial extraction developing rapidly under Belgian colonial rule during the early 20th century. Geologically, the region is situated within the Neoproterozoic Katanga Supergroup, where complex sedimentary basins underwent tectonic folding and subsequent deep supergene oxidation and weathering. This extensive hydrothermal and weathering activity created deeply weathered ore bodies enriched with world-famous secondary copper and cobalt minerals, making the area one of the most celebrated and prolific sources of exceptional mineral specimens in the world.
Attractive deep blue lustrous botryoidal chrysocolla across the front of matrix. The specimen comes with an antique label as shown at the end of the video.
