The Itauz Mine, located within the Zhelandy ore field near Satpayev in the Ulytau region of Kazakhstan, is part of the broader, world-renowned Dzhezkazgan copper-bearing province. Modern exploration and large-scale industrial development of the district accelerated during the twentieth century under Soviet planning, building upon ancient localized extractions that dated back centuries. Geologically, the deposit is sediment-hosted, situated within a thick sequence of upper Carboniferous to lower Permian continental red-bed clastics known as the Dzhezkazgan and Taskuduk formations. Copper mineralization primarily occurs as stratabound orebodies localized within reduced grey-colored sandstone and siltstone bands where metal-bearing solutions precipitated extensive sulfide reserves, making the region one of the most significant copper and silver reservoirs globally.
