Neat combination piece with a grouping of sharp well-formed native copper crystals on matrix next to a large sharp crystal of analcime which measures 3.0 cm across. This has been repaired. Collected in December, 1998.

The Seneca No. 3 Mine in Keweenaw County, Michigan, was part of the historic Seneca copper mining operations on the Keweenaw Peninsula. Mining began in the mid 1800s and focused on native copper deposits hosted in basalt flows and amygdaloidal lodes. The Seneca mines were developed by the Seneca Mining Company and included several shafts and underground workings. The mines produced native copper along with associated minerals such as calcite, quartz, and epidote that formed in cavities within the volcanic rock. Today the Seneca mines are part of the long history of copper mining in the Keweenaw region.
