description: The Quincy Mine, located near Hancock in Houghton County, Michigan, was founded in 1846 and operated primarily from 1846 to 1945, with brief periods of reopening during World War II and minor activities later. Geologically, the mine is situated within the Keweenaw Peninsula s Keweenawan rift zone, extracting native copper from Precambrian-aged basaltic lava flows and amygdaloid strata (most notably the Pewabic lode), as well as early fissure veins.
Sharp large crystals of native copper to 1.5 cm in size forming a cluster with little attached matrix and minor crystallized calcite. In super condition.
