Fine old time specimen with crystalline and massive purplish covellite hosting minor pyrite. The specimen comes with an antique label as shown at the end of the video and would date to the very early 20th century, if not the late 19th century. Mining at the Bor Mine in eastern Serbia began in the early 20th century after the discovery of a large porphyry copper deposit near the town of Bor. Development accelerated under French ownership before World War I and later expanded under Yugoslav state control, making Bor one of the most important copper producing centers in southeastern Europe. The deposit consists of copper sulfide mineralization hosted in volcanic and intrusive rocks, worked by both open pit and underground methods, with associated gold and other byproducts. Today the Bor complex remains an active copper mining and smelting center and continues to play a major role in the Serbian mining industry.
