The Rubtsovsk Mine, located in the Altai Krai region of southwestern Siberia, sits within the metallogenic province of the Rudny Altai. The deposit was officially discovered in 1970 during structural drilling to investigate a magnetic anomaly, revealing exceptionally rich base metal mineralization. Geologically, the area is characterized by complex Paleozoic volcanic and sedimentary sequences, including Devonian and Carboniferous formations cut by subvolcanic intrusions. The mine is widely celebrated in the mineralogical community for its extraordinary oxidized zone, which has produced world-class, museum-grade specimens of rare copper and lead minerals such as cuprite, miersite, and azurite.
