Dioptase
specimen number:
8691012
location:
Tantara Mine, Shinkolobwe, Kambove, Haut-Katanga, DR Congo
description:
Brilliant lustrous crystals of dioptase measuring to 0.8 cm in size on matrix. In good condition with minimal micro-chipping present. This is quite old and would have been collected in the 1950s. Previous labels that come with the specimen come from the collection of noted author William Sanborn, and from Burminco out of California. I remember reading an article, I believe in The Mineralogical Record, by George Burnham, the owner of Burminco, detailing his travels through Africa in the 1950s acquiring mineral specimens.
