Dolomite with Quartz
specimen number:
2312143
location:
Shangbao Mine, Hunan, China
description: The Shangbao Mine, located in Leiyang, Hunan Province, China, was originally established as a tungsten and polymetallic deposit during industrial expansion in the mid-twentieth century. Geologically, the area involves complex skarn-related hydrothermal fluid interactions where Mesozoic granitic intrusions affected older sedimentary and Paleozoic strata. As mining progressed through quartz and calcite veins, underground operations uncovered significant pockets of non-metallic mineralization. The mine has since become internationally famous among mineral collectors for producing well-formed cubic fluorite crystals that frequently display distinct color zoning and phantoms, often found in association with quartz, pyrite, calcite, and dolomite.
Attractive pink rhombohedral crystals of dolomite measuring to 2.0 cm in size on a crystallized quartz matrix. In great condition and quite attractive. From 2008.
