Elbaite (1.85g)
specimen number:

location:
Santa Rosa mine, Itambacuri, Minas Gerais, Brazil
description: The Santa Rosa Mine, situated within the prolific pegmatite fields of northeastern Minas Gerais, Brazil, has a rich history of artisanal and commercial gem extraction dating back several decades. Geologically, the area is part of the Eastern Brazilian Pegmatite Province, where complex granitic pegmatites intruded into regional metamorphic schists during the late stages of the Neoproterozoic Aracuai Orogeny. These weakly zoned pegmatites feature volatile-rich pockets that fostered the growth of exceptional mineral specimens. The mine became internationally celebrated for producing world-class gem elbaite, a complex cyclosilicate member of the tourmaline group prized for its striking prismatic crystals, remarkable transparency, and vibrant color variations ranging from deep blues and greens to multi-colored zoned specimens.
Attractive gem crystal of elbaite. In good condition.
