description: The Pine River pegmatite in Florence County, Wisconsin is a small granitic pegmatite occurrence located in the northern part of the state. Pegmatites in this region formed from late stage crystallization of granitic magma and can contain coarse crystals of minerals such as feldspar, quartz, and mica.
Prismatic reddish purple crystallized elbaite embedded in a vein throughout matrix. When thinking of the species, one never thinks of the state of Wisconsin. This is attractive material. The locality was originally discovered by Al Falster and was described in the magazine Rocks and Minerals, Vol. 70, No. 2. These are only very rarely seen available on the market today.
