Himalaya Mine, San Diego Co., California, USA
description: The Himalaya Mine in San Diego County, California, is one of the most famous gem producing pegmatite mines in the United States. Discovered in the late 1800s near the town of Mesa Grande, the mine was worked primarily for gem quality tourmaline. Large shipments of pink and green tourmaline crystals were exported to China during the early 20th century, where they were highly valued for carving and jewelry. The mine produced many fine crystals of elbaite, the lithium rich variety of tourmaline, often showing bright pink, green, and multicolored crystals.
Lustrous translucent pink crystals of elbaite measuring to 2.5 x 2.5 cm in size on a cluster of glassy gemmy smoky quartz crystals. This is in super condition.
Size: 7.5 x 6.0 x 4.5 cm (small-cabinet)
