The Pampa Blanca district, located in the Castrovirreyna Province of the Huancavelica Department in Peru, is geologically characterized by contact metamorphic skarn deposits. These skarns formed when hydrothermal fluids associated with Tertiary igneous intrusions reacted with carbonate and volcanic host rocks, depositing mineral assemblages in open cavities and vugs. Among these minerals, epidote occurs as dark green, lustrous, prismatic crystals and fan-like aggregates, often associated with quartz, prehnite, and andradite garnet. While the region has seen historical prospecting for metals, its modern prominence began in the late 20th century when miners and collectors systematically recovered these epidote specimens from localized claims like the Flor de Peru.
