Green Monster Mountain, located on Prince of Wales Island in southeastern Alaska, is a contact metamorphic skarn deposit formed when Mesozoic granitic rocks intruded into Paleozoic limestone. This geological interaction created mineralized zones rich in calcium-silicate minerals, copper, and iron. Historically, the locality was prospected and mined for copper during the early twentieth century, but it later became a source of epidote crystals for collectors. The epidote grew within open cavities and pockets in the skarn, often alongside quartz and magnetite, making the mountain a recognized locality for this mineral.
