Epidote with Quartz
specimen number:
8311067
location:
Green Monster Mtn., Prince of Wales Island, Alaska, USA
description: Epidote from Green Monster Mountain on Prince of Wales Island in Alaska occurs in skarn deposits formed where intrusive rocks reacted with surrounding limestone. Exploration and small scale mining in the early 20th century targeted copper minerals such as chalcopyrite and bornite. The locality later became famous among collectors for large, well formed dark green epidote crystals found in pockets within the altered rock. Specimens from Green Monster Mountain are considered among the finest examples of epidote from North America.
A fine cluster of lustrous thick deep green sharply formed crystals of epidote with minor quartz. In great condition. An excellent miniature specimen for this North American classic.
Size: 5.0 x 3.0 x 2.0 cm (miniature)
