Fahleite (type locality)

specimen number:
1403283

location:
Tsumeb Mine, Tsumeb, Otjikoto Region, Namibia

description:

Green translucent fragment of rare fahleite measuring 1.2 x 0.6 x 0.2 cm in size. Previously known as GS1 or GS2, this is actually a very fine grained fahleite. The identification utilized X-ray powder diffraction. The X-ray diffraction peaks are diffuse, much like those seen in the original material. The mineral is described in the abstract below, as spherulitic or fibrous, and composed of grains the size of a few micrometers... This is actually consistent with the appearance of the mineral on the macroscopic scale. See http://rruff.info/rruff_1.0/uploads/AM74_500.pdf. Shipping weight: 0.03 lbs.

Size: 1.2 x 0.6 x 0.2 cm (thumbnail)
