Fluorbuergerite is a rare member of the tourmaline group that is rich in iron and fluorine, typically forming dark brown to nearly black crystals with a vitreous luster. It occurs in highly evolved granitic pegmatites where complex chemical conditions allow for the incorporation of fluorine and other elements into the crystal structure. One of the best known localities for fluor buergerite is Mexquitic in San Luis Potosi, Mexico, where it is found in association with other pegmatite minerals such as quartz and feldspar.
