Fluorite
specimen number:
2013323
location:
Charles Pfizer & Co. Inc. Quarry, Gibsonburg, Sandusky Co., Ohio, USA
description:
Gorgeous bluish green iridescent deep brown cubic crystals of fluorite measuring to 3.0 cm on edge across the front of matrix. This is in excellent condition. This is classic material for this locality in good examples rarely come available on the market today. The beautiful iridescence is caused by a very thin surface film formed by natural oxidation or slight chemical alteration after exposure to air and groundwater. This microscopic film creates light interference effects, producing shifting rainbow colors on the crystal surfaces.
