description: The Ozark Mahoning No. 1 Mine in Hardin County, Illinois was one of the major operations in the Illinois Kentucky Fluorspar District near Cave in Rock. The mine was developed in the mid 20th century to extract fluorite from vein and bedding replacement deposits in limestone. Production included large amounts of fluorspar used in the steel and chemical industries.
A stunning grouping of absolutely gorgeous blue gem cubic lustrous crystals of fluorite on a sphalerite crystal matrix with minor barite. Very slight cleaving present, this still in really fine condition. The color on this is outstanding. From the early 1990s. The color just doesn't get any better than this.
