The fluorite from this site is particularly prized, often occurring as transparent, lustrous cubic crystals in colors ranging from honey-yellow to a pale, misty purple. Historically, the quarry was operated by the Caldwell Stone Company and has been an active source of crushed stone for regional construction projects since the early 1900s.
