The Segen Gottes Erbstolln Mine, located near Gersdorf in the Striegistal area of Saxony, Germany, is part of the historic mining landscape associated with the northern Freiberg silver district. Historically, silver and base metal mining in this area dates back to the twelfth century under the influence of the Altzella Cistercian monastery, with operations continuing intermittently until the late nineteenth century. Geologically, although linked administratively and metallogenically to the broader Freiberg mining region, the deposit is situated within the crystalline rocks of the Saxon Granulite Massif rather than the Erzgebirge proper. The local vein systems belong to the barytic-fluoritic lead-silver formation, containing quartz, galena, sphalerite, and associated hydrothermal minerals.
