The Xia Yang Mine, located in Yongchun County within the Fujian Province of China, is situated in a complex geological region characterized by Mesozoic volcanic and sedimentary sequences intruded by late Yanshanian granites. This environment facilitated the development of hydrothermal vein-type deposits, where fluorine-rich fluids circulated through faults and fractures to deposit high-quality fluorite. The locality is highly regarded for its distinctive purple fluorite, which frequently occurs as sharp, translucent to transparent crystals in cubic habits, sometimes exhibiting darker zoning or a modified octahedral form. Historically, mining and quarrying at the Xia Yang Mine have been driven by the industrial demand for fluorite as a flux in the steel and aluminum industries, with active commercial extraction becoming prominent in the late 20th century and continuing through 2026. The mine is recognized by the mineralogical community for its consistent output of aesthetic specimens that demonstrate the classic deep violet to lavender hues characteristic of Fujian fluorite.
