Fluorite with Pyrite
specimen number:
2471020
location:
Gaskins Mine, Pope Co., Illinois, USA
description:
Very unusual an excellent reference specimen for this famous mining district. A grouping of bluish translucent crystallized fluorite 6.5 x 5.0 x 4.5 cm in size is mostly covered with small micro crystals of pyrite. While chalcopyrite was common throughout the district, good examples of pyrite were really very rarely seen. This sits beautifully by itself for display. Crystallize naturally all around with minor cleaving in one area. The presence of pyrite make this piece important. Shipping weight: 0.45 pounds.
Size: 6.5 x 5.0 x 4.5 cm (small-cabinet)
