description: The Baia Sprie mine, historically known as Felsobanya and located in Maramures County, Romania, is a legendary mining district with centuries of recorded history centered on the extraction of precious and base metals. Geologically, the area is situated within the Neogene volcanic belt of the Eastern Carpathians, characterized by complex epithermal vein systems hosted in volcanic and sedimentary rocks. Hydrothermal activity deposited a diverse array of sulfide and sulfosalt minerals. The underground workings are internationally celebrated by mineral collectors for producing magnificent, highly aesthetic crystal specimens, particularly exceptional associations of realgar, orpiment, stibnite, and various precious metal sulfosalts.
Semi lustrous cubic crystals of galena to 2.0 cm in size across the front of matrix with bladed crystals of golden marcasite. This is in good condition.
