The Orford Nickel Mine, located near Mont Orford in Quebec, Canada, was developed in the late 19th century as part of early efforts to exploit nickel bearing deposits in the region. The geology is associated with ultramafic rocks, particularly peridotite and related intrusive bodies, which host nickel rich sulfide mineralization formed through magmatic processes. Mining activity was relatively limited compared to larger Canadian nickel districts, but it represented an important early stage in the recognition and development of nickel resources in the country. The deposit formed as molten rock cooled and allowed sulfide minerals to concentrate and segregate within the host intrusion. Although the mine was not a long lived major producer, it remains of interest as an example of early nickel mining and the geologic processes responsible for magmatic sulfide deposits in Quebec.
