description: The Herja Mine in Maramures County, Romania, is part of the Baia Mare mining district, a region known for polymetallic ore deposits containing lead, zinc, copper, silver, and gold. Mining in the area has a long history, with major development during the 19th and 20th centuries. The mine became well known among mineral collectors for producing fine crystallized specimens from hydrothermal veins cutting volcanic rocks. Notable minerals from Herja include stibnite, quartz, sphalerite, gypsum and a variety of sulfosalts, many occurring as well formed crystals in cavities within the ore veins.
