Korsnas Lead Mine, Ostrobothnia, Finland

Choice blocky crystals of harmotome measuring to 1.3 cm in size across the top of matrix. In good condition. Quite choice for the species, neat locality example.

Korsnas in western Finland is a historic mining locality that was worked mainly during the mid 20th century for lead and rare earth rich mineralization hosted in metamorphic rocks. Mining operations developed around complex veins and replacement bodies that produced a wide variety of unusual minerals. The locality is especially well known among collectors for harmotome, a barium rich zeolite that occurs as well formed crystals, often white to colorless, lining cavities in the host rock.
