specimen number:
1052243
location:
Ocna de Fier, Caras-Severin Co., Romania
description:
A classic European specimen featuring lustrous blocky metallic hematite crystals measuring up to 1.0 cm on matrix, showing the bright steel gray luster and solid crystal form characteristic of the species from this locality. Some damage is present, as noted, but the specimen still retains good representative character and display value. This is a neat antique example accompanied by an old label dating the piece to the early 20th century, as shown at the end of the video, adding important historical provenance and collector interest. Ocna de Fier, known in earlier times by the Hungarian name Dognecea, is a well known Romanian mining district with a long history of iron and polymetallic extraction, and it has produced a variety of classic mineral specimens highly regarded by collectors.
