Shaft 250 (Schacht 250), located in the Niederschlema and Bad Schlema district of the western Erzgebirge in Saxony, Germany, was a prominent part of the massive Schlema-Alberoda uranium and polymetallic mining district. Operating primarily under the Soviet-German Wismut Corporation during the intensive post-World War II mining era (roughly from the late 1940s until operations wound down around 1990), the shaft provided deep access to complex hydrothermal vein systems. Geologically, the deposit sits within a rugged metamorphic and igneous basement framework where multi-stage hydrothermal fluids circulated through fracture networks. This mineralization produced a world-renowned paragenesis featuring uranium oxides, native elements, selenides, and a rich variety of rare secondary and sulfosalt minerals.
