Colorless botryoidal crystallized hemimorphite across the top of matrix. The specimen comes with an antique label as shown at the end of the video and dates to the very early 20th century. Some azurite is present as well.

The Tsumeb Mine, located in northern Namibia, is a legendary polymetallic deposit renowned for its remarkable mineralogical diversity. Geologically, the orebody forms a pipe-like structure hosted within Neoproterozoic dolomites and limestones of the Otavi Group. This mineral-rich pipe was created over 500 million years ago when tectonic forces created pathways for deep, hot hydrothermal fluids to circulate, dissolving and replacing the surrounding carbonate rocks with metal sulfides of copper, lead, zinc, and rare elements like germanium. Over millions of years, groundwater penetrated deep karst systems and fractures, creating three distinct oxidation zones. This chemical alteration yielded an unparalleled abundance of colorful secondary minerals, including world-famous specimens of azurite, malachite, and dioptase. Historically, indigenous peoples such as the Herero, Ovambo, and Hai//om mined and smelted copper from the surface outcrop for centuries before colonial prospectors arrived in the late nineteenth century. Large-scale commercial mining began in 1897 and continued nearly uninterrupted until 1996, when depleting reserves, low metal prices, and labor strikes led to the flooding and closure of the mine.

Arthur Kusche was a German mineral dealer based in Munich, active during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Operating alongside other prominent contemporary Munich dealers like Wilhelm Maucher, Kusche acquired and sold regional European minerals as well as specimens from major global discoveries of the era, such as early strikes at the Tsumeb mine in Namibia and classic Italian localities. Mineral specimens bearing his distinctive, elegant printed labels are preserved in notable museum and private collections worldwide.
