Hemimorphite with Calcite
specimen number:
2102029
location:
79 Mine, Gila Co., Arizona, USA
description:
Beautiful blue botryoidal crystallized hemimorphite across the front of matrix and accented attractively with white bladed crystals of calcite. In great condition. The 79 mine was developed in the early 20th century and produced lead, zinc, and minor silver from replacement type ore bodies typical of the region. Hemimorphite formed as a secondary zinc silicate mineral during the weathering of primary sulfides and commonly appears as pale blue botryoidal coatings and radiating crystal groups. Specimens from the 79 Mine are well known among collectors and are valued for their attractive color and form from this classic Arizona mineral locality.
