Nashik in Maharashtra, India, is part of the Deccan Traps, a vast volcanic province composed of layered basalt flows formed during the late Cretaceous period. These basaltic rocks contain numerous gas cavities and fractures that were later filled by mineral rich fluids, leading to the formation of secondary minerals. Among the most notable of these is heulandite, a zeolite mineral that commonly occurs as well formed crystals lining cavities within the basalt. Heulandite from the Nashik area typically appears as transparent to translucent crystals with a pearly to vitreous luster, often showing colors such as white, pink, or light orange. It is frequently associated with other zeolites such as stilbite and apophyllite, forming attractive mineral assemblages. The combination of abundant cavities and favorable geochemical conditions has made Nashik an important locality for zeolite minerals and a significant source of collector specimens.
