specimen number:
1052234

location:
Devils Hole, Sugarloaf Butte, Alameda County, California, USA

description:
An attractive specimen featuring colorless acicular micro crystals of hydromagnesite largely covering the top of the matrix, forming a delicate sparkling layer with fine fibrous texture. The coverage is extensive and provides excellent representative character for the species from this locality. The specimen is in good condition and is accompanied by an antique label dating to the early 20th century, as shown at the end of the video, adding important historical provenance and collector appeal. Devils Hole at Sugarloaf Butte is a noted California occurrence for secondary magnesium carbonates formed through low temperature alteration processes.
