The Shijiangshan mine, located in the Hexigten Banner near Linxi in Inner Mongolia, China, is a polymetallic skarn deposit formed through complex contact metamorphism and hydrothermal activity. The geology of the mining area features intrusive rocks interacting with carbonate sequences, creating diverse skarn zones rich in silicates and borates. This site has gained international renown among mineralogists for hosting rare secondary minerals in its hydrothermally altered vugs and pockets. Among these discoveries is imayoshiite, a very rare hydrated calcium carbonate-borate mineral belonging to the ettringite group. At Shijiangshan, exceptional high-symmetry sulfate-rich varieties of imayoshiite crystallize during late-stage low-temperature hydrothermal processes, forming distinct hexagonal prismatic and dipyramidal crystals inside the silicate skarn environment.
