Kermesite from Pezinok, Slovakia, is well known among collectors for its striking red coloration and fibrous crystal habit. The mineral occurs in antimony deposits within the Pezinok area, where historic mining targeted stibnite and associated minerals in hydrothermal veins cutting through metamorphic rocks. Kermesite typically forms as radiating sprays and silky aggregates of fine crystals, often displaying a deep red to crimson color with a pearly to silky luster. These specimens are usually found in association with stibnite and other antimony minerals, formed through secondary alteration processes in the oxidized zones of the deposit. Kermesite from Pezinok is considered classic material and is valued for both its color and its well developed crystal forms.
