Kyanite with Quartz
specimen number:
2102077
location:
Bakersville, Mitchell Co., North Carolina, USA
description: Kyanite occurs in several metamorphic rock formations in western North Carolina, particularly in the Blue Ridge Mountains. It commonly forms in high pressure metamorphic rocks such as schist and gneiss that developed during ancient mountain building events. Notable occurrences are found in Mitchell, Yancey, and Buncombe counties, where kyanite appears as bladed blue crystals within mica schist and quartz rich rocks. Although most deposits were not extensively mined, North Carolina specimens are well known among collectors for their attractive crystal form and color.
Beautiful blue crystals of kyanite with massive quartz. Very attractive with nice color.
