Lizardite is a member of the serpentine group of minerals that forms through the alteration of ultramafic rocks such as peridotite. It typically occurs as fine grained, massive, or scaly material and is commonly light to medium green in color. Lizardite forms at relatively low temperatures compared to other serpentine minerals and is widespread in areas of hydrothermal alteration and low grade metamorphism.
