Magnetite
specimen number:
9771398
location:
Pilot Knob Mine, Iron Co., Missouri, USA
description:
A grouping of semi lustrous octahedral magnetite crystals with little attached matrix. In great condition. The previous label from the specimen states that it is from the Einstein Silver Mine in Madison Co., Missouri. This locality is a greisen type deposit that was actually mind for silver, getting this out of the massive galena. Magnetite makes no sense here. I am certain that this comes from the nearby historical and long closed Pilot Knob Iron Mine.
