The specimen comes with an antique label as seen at the end of the video and dates to the early 20th century. The matrix is rich in massive chalcopyrite.

Historically, mining in the Dillenburg area has ancient roots, with evidence of iron production dating back to the La Tene period of the Iron Age. Large-scale industrial mining flourished from the 16th century through the 19th century, supported by the House of Nassau-Dillenburg, which utilized the local forests and water power for smelting. While copper mining was also significant, the region was a cornerstone of the German iron industry until the late 19th and early 20th centuries, when many mines began to close due to the exhaustion of easily accessible ore. The district is also noted for interesting secondary minerals, including nickel and cobalt species from mines like the Aurora and Hilfe Gottes, reflecting a complex and varied geochemical history.
