The Mindingi Mine, located near Kambove in Haut Katanga, Democratic Republic of the Congo, is part of the Central African Copperbelt, one of the worlds richest copper and cobalt producing regions. Mining in the area has focused on stratiform copper deposits hosted in sedimentary rocks, where mineralization formed through the movement of metal rich fluids during ancient geologic processes. Operations have included both underground and surface mining, contributing to the long history of copper production in the region. The mine is especially known for its malachite, which occurs as bright green botryoidal masses, fibrous aggregates, and banded material formed in the oxidized zones of the deposit. These specimens developed through the alteration of primary copper minerals and are often associated with other secondary copper minerals, making them highly valued by collectors for their color and texture.
