An excellent example for the species with prismatic lustrous black crystals of manganbabingtonite measuring to 0.5 cm in length across the top of a crystallized johannsenite matrix. In great condition. Collected by George Godas in the 1990s.

The Iron Cap Mine in Graham County, Arizona was part of the historic mining activity in the Bonita district of southeastern Arizona. The mine worked copper and other base metal deposits hosted in igneous and sedimentary rocks. Operations took place mainly in the late 19th and early 20th centuries using underground mining methods.

Manganbabingtonite is a manganese rich member of the babingtonite mineral group. It is a calcium iron manganese silicate mineral that forms in low temperature hydrothermal environments and in cavities.
