Neat specimen from this old and long closed locality. A lustrous scalenohedral crystal of calcite is mostly covered by crystallized marcasite. Very minimal cleaving present, this is in good condition.

The Magmont Mine, located in the northern portion of the Viburnum Trend in Iron County, Missouri, was discovered via surface drilling in September 1962. Developed as a joint venture by Cominco American and Ozark Lead Company, the mine officially began production in 1968 and ceased underground mining operations in May 1994, with final water-pumping and milling activities concluding around 1995. Geologically, the deposit is a classic Mississippi Valley-type (MVT) orebody hosted within the platform carbonates of the Upper Cambrian Bonneterre Dolomite. Mineralization primarily consists of galena, sphalerite, and chalcopyrite localized in reefs, breccias, and dolostone host rocks along a major regional facies transition.
