Merelaniite is a rare molybdenum lead sulfide mineral that was first described in 2016 from the Merelani Hills in Tanzania, a locality famous for tanzanite. It occurs as very fine fibrous or hair like crystals, often forming silky or felted aggregates. The mineral formed in high temperature hydrothermal environments within graphite bearing rocks.
