The Valenciana Mine in Guanajuato, Mexico, is one of the most famous silver mines in the world and was discovered in the 16th century. It became one of the richest silver producers during the 18th century, contributing greatly to the Spanish colonial economy. The mine is part of a large system of hydrothermal veins hosted in volcanic rocks and has been worked intermittently into modern times. In addition to silver minerals, the locality has produced a variety of mineral specimens. Milarite, a rare potassium calcium beryllium aluminum silicate forms yellow green crystals on orthoclase.
