The Wallace Stone Quarry, operating since the late 19th century near Bay Port in Huron County, Michigan, extracts high-quality aggregate from Paleozoic sedimentary rock formations of the Michigan Basin. Geologically, the quarry exposes fossiliferous limestone and dolostone strata containing vugs and cavities that host good mineral specimens. Among these, the quarry is widely celebrated by mineral collectors for producing fine specimens of millerite, a nickel sulfide mineral that forms brilliant, brassy, hair-like or acicular crystal clusters nestled inside small quartz and carbonate geodes alongside minerals like calcite, dolomite, and pyrite.
