location:
Alto Ligohna, Zambezia, Mozambique
description: The Alto Ligonha pegmatite district in northern Mozambique is a well known region of granitic pegmatites that produce a variety of gem and rare element minerals. Mining in the area has taken place since the early 20th century and has yielded minerals such as beryl, tourmaline, spodumene, and columbite from pegmatite bodies hosted in metamorphic rocks. Many workings have been small scale operations focused on gem quality crystals. The district remains an important source of mineral specimens and gemstones from southeastern Africa.
Choice loose cluster of thick muscovite crystals. In good condition and quite nice for the species.
