description: Paramelaconite is a rare copper oxide mineral, typically forming as a black, opaque mineral with a dull to submetallic luster. It was first described in the 19th century and is considered an uncommon secondary mineral that forms through the oxidation of other copper minerals.
From a limited find of this very rare mineral, crystallized paramelaconite present and in the process of being replaced by tenorite. In good condition. Collected by Shawn Carlson and Mark Elder in the late 1990's. Only about 12 specimens were recovered; this is one of them.
