A good specimen featuring rich black masses of perovskite in the variety known as knopite distributed throughout the matrix, showing the typical dense habit and dark coloration characteristic of this rare earth bearing variety. The contrasting matrix provides good definition to the perovskite masses, making the species easy to observe and identify. The specimen is accompanied by an antique label dating to the early 20th century, as shown at the end of the video, adding important historical provenance and collector appeal. Alno is one of the world's classic alkaline intrusive complexes, renowned for its unusual mineralogy and rare species associated with carbonatites and related igneous rocks. Knopite, a rare earth rich variety of perovskite, was first described from this locality, and specimens from Alno are historically important in the study of alkaline and carbonatite mineral systems, making this an excellent example from a significant Swedish mineral locality.
