Perovskite with Magnetite, Clinochlore

specimen number:
1052183

location:
Zlatoust, Chelyabinsk Oblast', Russia

description:
This specimen features lustrous, sharp cubic crystals of perovskite up to 1.0 cm on edge, beautifully perched on a matrix of clinochlore and magnetite. While some minor damage is present, as noted in the video, the crystals remain well formed and visually striking. Perovskite is a calcium titanium oxide mineral prized for its distinctive cubic habit and association with metamorphic and skarn type environments, making well crystallized specimens highly collectible. The Zlatoust region in the southern Urals of Russia is historically renowned for its complex metamorphic and magmatic geology, producing a variety of rare and well crystallized minerals during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. This piece is preserved with an antique label, as shown at the end of the video, dating it to the early 20th century, providing provenance and a tangible connection to a classic Russian mineral locality. A fine example of a rare species, it combines aesthetic appeal, historical significance, and collector interest in one distinguished specimen.
