An excellent example for the species and locality. Large thick lustrous crystals of phlogopite measuring to 6.0 cm in size are set up on matrix with calcite. This is in very good condition. The specimen comes with an antique label as shown at the end of the video and dates to the very early 20th century. Originally acquired through American dealer Lazard Cahn.

Mining in Franklin, New Jersey began in the 19th century and focused on large zinc deposits hosted in Precambrian marble. The Franklin and nearby Sterling Hill mines became major producers of zinc ore for many decades. The district is famous for its unusual mineralogy, with more than 350 mineral species identified.

Lazard Cahn was an American mineral dealer and collector active during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. He lived in Colorado Springs, Colorado and handled mineral specimens from many important mining districts in the United States. Cahn supplied specimens to collectors, museums, and universities and issued printed labels with many of the minerals he sold. Specimens with his labels are still found in older collections and are valued for their historical provenance.
