Superb British classic that certainly dates to the middle 19 century. A translucent lustrous sharply formed crystal of phosgenite 1.0 cm in size is set up on a galena matrix. This is in great condition. Brightly fluorescent. The specimen comes with an antique label as shown at the end of the video.

Phosgenite from the Cromford area in Derbyshire was primarily collected during the late 18th to mid 19th centuries, coinciding with the peak of lead mining activity in the district. Most classic specimens are believed to have come from workings active roughly between about 1750 and 1850, when oxidized zones in the lead veins were extensively exploited and mineral collecting was already taking place.
